Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey took the Red Bull Unadilla National Moto 1 win in one of the most dramatic contests so far this season. Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle trailed just under one second behind and JGRMX Yamaha’s Davi Millsaps rounded out the podium. The extremely difficult track, deep with ruts and still muddy in places from rains earlier in the week, got the best of a number of top-tier riders before the finish.

Coming off the start, BTO Sports’ Michael Byrne and Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart broke away from the pack and battled for the lead, with Stewart getting to the front into the second lap. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer held strong in third, but noticeably absent from the front was current points leader Dungey, who had been pushed back to seventh and his closest rival, Mike Alessi of MotoConcepts Suzuki, who was in ninth.

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey took the win in Moto 1 at the Moto-X 338 National in Southwick, Massachusetts as rain began to soak the sand track. MotoConcepts' Mike Alessi followed in second and Muscle Milk Honda’s Tommy Hahn rounded out the podium. Local rider Robbie Marshall of Munn Racing looked at home all moto, holding steady in fourth to the finish and was followed by L&MC Racing’s Andrew Short in fifth.

Alessi and Dungey put themselves out front early on, avoiding a pile-up just after the start that put a number of riders including Hahn’s teammate Justin Brayton and Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Tyla Rattray in the back of the pack. Alessi held the lead for most of the first half of the contest, but Dungey kept close and found an inside line mid-moto, taking the lead and building a gap that was over 16 seconds by the checkers.

Hahn and Marshall settled into their finishing positions mid-moto as well, with Marshall looking comfortable in the sand. Monster Pro Circuit Kawasaki’s Broc Tickle followed Short in sixth, with JGRMX Yamaha’s Davi Millsaps taking seventh in his return to motocross competition. Jeff Ward Racing’s Josh Grant held to eighth, followed by Factory FMF/KTM’s Mike Brown in ninth.

Round eight of the 2012 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing headed to the Pacific Northwest Saturday, the grid vying for points at Washougal MX Park in Washington.

And for the sixth consecutive round, Red Bull KTM's Ryan Dungey was successful, the Minnesota native taking the overall victory. But unlike the last five rounds, it wasn't a sweep; Dungey was beat by his 2012 MX rival, MotoConcepts Suzuki's Mike Alessi, in the first moto. But Dungey returned to his dominate ways, taking a champion-convincing win in the second moto.

Joining Dungey on the overall podium was Alessi and Team Chaparal Honda's Andrew Short.

Alessi grabbed the holeshot in the opening moto of the 450 Class and set a fast pace early on, with Jeff Ward Racing Kawasaki's Josh Grant, and Monster Energy Kawasaki's Jake Weimer in tow. Following a fourth-place start, Dungey quickly began to move his way forward and positioned himself behind Alessi on the second lap.

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey scored his ninth moto win in Moto 1 at Spring Creek by an impressive margin of over 23 seconds. Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer came in second with MotoConcepts Suzuki’s Mike Alessi taking third. Dungey came off the start back in the pack, falling as far as eighth, and had to battle forward during the first half of the moto in order to gain the lead. Dungey's win was sweetened by the fact that it was in front of his home crowd.

Muscle Milk Honda’s Justin Brayton fought his way up to fourth, getting past teammate Tommy Hahn, Monster Kawi’s Tyla Rattray and finally L&MC’s Andrew Short. Brayton battled with Short near the end of the race, until Short bobbled through a whoop section and slowed considerably, allowing the Honda rider to easily shoot past. Short came across the finish in fifth, Rattray in sixth and followed by Hahn in seventh.
